PPI display demo
A plan position indicator (PPI) displays targets by range and bearing, with the radar at the centre and north at the top. Click the display to add a target.
Display operation
The rotating sweep indicates antenna bearing. When the beam passes a target, its echo appears at the corresponding range and bearing. Simulated phosphor persistence makes returns fade between sweeps and shows a trail of previous positions.
A rotating radar updates each target once per revolution. At 12 RPM, this is one update every five seconds. Electronically steered arrays can revisit targets without waiting for mechanical rotation.
Controls
Click or tap the display to place a target. Each target follows a straight track, with its displayed position updated as the sweep passes.
This demonstration assumes every target is detected on each scan. It excludes clutter, noise and missed detections.
